BonkRemote mit textbasierter Benutzeroberfläche

Ich habe BonkRemote mit einem Palm getestet und festgestellt, dass eine grafische Benutzeroberfläche zu langsam ist. Deshalb habe ich das Interface des DVD Players auf Textbasis aufgebaut. Analog werde ich für die restlichen Module machen. Zwischenzeitlich habe ich mit einem Modul für EyeTV begonnen.

Wenn dieses Modul fertig ist, werde ich ein generisches Modul entwickeln, das die Requests an AppleScript-Module weiterleitet.

So, BonkRemote hat jetzt einen Stand, wo es grundsätzlich benutzbar ist. Bis jetzt kann man nur den DVD Player steuern. Dort fehlen noch einige Kleinigkeiten, wie z.B. das Visualisieren von Zurück- und Vorspulen , die von Basistechniken (Cookies und Sessionsmanagement) abhängen. Diese werde ich im WebServerKit und im AppServerKit als nächstes implementieren.

Danach kommt das EyeTV- und das iTunes-Modul an die Reihe.

Vor einigen Tagen habe ich damit begonnen, ein Programm namens BonkRemote für MacOSX zu programmieren. Mit dem Programm ist es möglich, MacOSX-Anwendungen von einem anderen Rechner aus zu steuern. Als GUI wird lediglich ein Web-Browser benötigt. So ist möglich, dass man für die Steuerung auch einen PDA, der über WLAN oder Bluetooth angebunden ist, verwenden kann.

BonkRemote ist modular aufgebaut: Für jede Anwendung muss ein Bundle existieren, das diese mit AppleScript steuert. Als Proof Of Concept habe ich ein Modul für den DVD Player von MacOSX programmiert. Dieses Modul wird heute wahrscheinlich fertig. Screenshot folgen dann später...

Module für EyeTV und vor allem iTunes folgen dann. Die Idee für BonkRemote hatte ich, da ich eine Möglichkeit gesucht habe, iTunes zu bedienen ohne den Fernseher, an dem mein Mac mini angeschlossen ist, einschalten zu müssen.

Es gibt zwar schon Salling Clicker, aber wenn man etwas selbst macht, dann lernt man auch etwas dabei :-) Und VNC o.ä. ist keine Alternative, da bspw. ein PDA-Display üblicherweise nur eine Auflösung von 320x320 oder 240x320 Pixel hat.

Ich experimentiere momentan mit einer HTTP-Schnittstelle für MacOSX-Anwendungen. Das erste Problem, was ich dabei hatte war, dass mir Objective-C Klassen gefehlt haben, die die HTTP-Request entgegen nehmen können. Bei CocoaDev habe ich dann einen Link auf eine Beispielanwendung namens BirthdayServer gefunden. Die relevanten Klassen habe ich einen Framework gepackt.

Diesen Framwork würde ich gerne für die Allgemeinheit zur Verfügugn stellen. Allerdings weiss ich momentan noch nicht, wie ich David Thorpe, den Autor der Beispielanwendung, erreichen kann...

Einige News-Seiten haben es ja im Vorfeld zur World-wide Developer Conference (WWDC) schon berichtet, eine Überraschung ist es trotzdem: Apple steigt auf Intel-Prozessoren (x86) um. Im Juni 2006 soll der erste Rechner mit Intel-Prozessor auf den Markt kommen. Bis 2007 sollen dann alle Macs mit Intel-Prozessor ausgeliefert werden.

Laut Steve Jobs wurde MacOSX wurde in der Vergangenheit zweigleisig für PowerPC (PPC) und x86 entwickelt. Für alte PPC-Anwendungen wird ein Emulator namens Rosetta integriert, der auf der WWDC auch gezeigt wurde.

MacOSX soll nicht auf Standard-PCs mit x86-Prozessor lauffähig sein.

Mir ist aufgefallen, dass manche bzw. alle .plist-Dateien unter Mac OS X 10.4 binär sind. Das ist insofern unschön, als dass man dort bspw. versteckte Optionen von Anwendungen verändern kann. Mit den Tools pl und plutil kann man die Binärdateien aber wieder in ASCII-Dateien umwandeln. Die beiden Tools werden per default bei Mac OS X mitgeliefert. Ein man hilft weiter :-)

Spotlight unter Mac OS X 10.4 abschalten

Damit Spotlight die Suche nach Daten beschleunigen kann, muss es im Hintergrund natürlich alle Daten indexieren, was entsprechend auf die Performance geht. Möchte man keine Performanceeinbußen in kauf nehmen, kann man Spotlight abschalten, indem man in der Datei /etc/hostconfig den Eintrag SPOTLIGHT=-YES- in SPOTLIGHT=-NO- ändert und anschließend den Rechner neu startet.

Die Datei kann man mit vim öffnen:
vim /etc/hostconfig

Um Plattenplatz zu sparen, kann man den Index von Spotlight mit folgenden Befehlen löschen:
mdutil -i off / mdutil -E /

Wie heise News meldet, bietet die T-Com ab dem 1. Juli 2005 T-DSL mit einer Bandbreite von 6 MBit/s an. Die Kosten belaufen sich auf 24,99€, also soviel wie aktuell noch ein T-DSL-Anschluss mit 3 MBit/s kostet.

Wenn Congster dieses Bandbreite zulässt, werde ich wohl dann nochmal upgraden :-)

Mac mini am Fernseher

Ich habe meinen Mac mini gestern abend an den Fernseher angeschlossen.

Die Bildqualität der grafischen Benutzeroberfläche ist am Fernseher nicht so schlecht, wie ich ursprünglich gedacht habe. Wenn ich eine DVD oder einen Film über die Elgato EyeTV 610 anschaue ist die Qualität super.

Unter dem Mac mini steht eine Elgato EyeTV 610. Rechts neben den Geräten liegt eine Bluetooth-Tastatur. Die Bilder haben eine schlechte Qualität, da ich sie heute morgen schnell mit dem Handy gemacht habe.

Monika Henzinger hat 1989 ihr Diplom in Saarbrücken bei Prof. Dr. Kurt Mehlhorn an der Uni Saarbrücken gemacht und hatte auch später kurze Zeit einen Lehrstuhl im Fachbereich der Uni Saarbrücken inne.

Dann benötige ich allerdings noch einen Relay-Host für meinen SMTP-Server zuhause. Dafür könnte ich bei HostEurope ein Hosting-Paket einkaufen (z.B. das WebPack S).

Über das digitale Kabel werden neben Fernsehprogrammen auch Radioprogramme ausgestrahlt. Der Elgato eyeTV 610 kann diese leider noch nicht empfangen. Ich habe diesbzgl. eine Anfrage an den Elgato-Support gestellt: Dieses Feature sei in Arbeit; ein Releasetermin kann nicht genannt werden.

Schön, dass dieses Feature kommt. Damit wird der Mac mini auch gleich noch zu einem Radio :-)

Das Mac mini Toolset besteht aus einem Werkzeug und einer Video-DVD, die beschreibt wie man den Mac mini öffnen und das RAM-Modul austauschen kann. Damit kann man ein paar € sparen, da die RAM-Preise bei Apple überhöht sind. Wahrscheinlich sollte man allerdings etwas handwerkliches Geschick mitbringen, um das Gehäuse zu öffnen. Die Garantiefrage scheint auch ungeklärt zu sein.

Letzte Woche habe ich meinen Elgato eyeTV 610 bekommen. Der Elgato eyeTV 610 ist ein Tuner für digitales Kabelfernsehen. Die beiliegende Software bietet alles, was man von einem PVR erwartet. Trotzdem gibt es noch weitere Tools und Erweiterungen:

Das Tool DisplayConfigX verspricht die Konfiguration von eigenen Auflösungen unter MacOSX. Da ein Fernseher lediglich eine Auflösung von 720x576 hat, würde sich diese Tool prima für die Konfiguration eines HTPC mit Betrieb am Fernseher eignen.

Update 01.02.2005: PAL-DVDs haben eine Auflösung von 720x576 Pixel. Das PAL-Fernsehbild hat eine Auflösung von 768x576 Pixel.
